Hi everyone! I'd like to invite you all to join me at my new home on the net, All Things Julie. I have to admit that I've been toying with the idea of starting a new blog for awhile now. It's nothing personal against Xanga, or any of the wonderful Xangans I've had the pleasure of befriending these past nine years; I just need a change...a new start.

For those of you who are remaining at Xanga, don't worry. I'm not shutting this site down, so I'll still be able to visit and comment on your sites

Thank you so very much for all the birthday wishes! I had a pretty good birthday weekend. On the 12th, my mom, best friend, and I went to a matinee of The Fighter (loved it!) and then had dinner at the Cracker Barrel (chicken and rice, the Saturday special. Nom nom nom). The next day, on my actual birthday, I had planned to do some shopping, but my brother Bart and one of his friends stopped by unexpectedly. Bart surprised the hell out of me by gifting me with a beautiful rose and lily bouquet. Mom treated us to lunch at Kouri's, and then we spent the rest of the afternoon back here visiting. It was nice and low key.
My best friend's husband, Mark, was discharged from the hospital this past Wednesday. The echocardiogram revealed that his congestive heart failure was caused by a blood clot (which was then compounded by a viral infection), so after a steady diet of blood thinners and diuretics, his blood pressure and heart rate were finally stable enough for him to go home. He will have to take six different types of medication, have his blood tested once a week, and follow a low sodium, low cholesterol diet, but he is expected to make a full recovery. Thank God!
I don't know why I'm even mentioning this, but I kinda sorta have my eye on one of our new bus drivers. "Red Beard" (so nicknamed for his beautiful red facial hair) is friendlier and more personable than my previous crush, Mr. Bus Driver, but I'm trying to keep myself in check, especially since I don't know anything about him. I have no idea how old he is (I'm thinking he's out of my age range), or if he already has a wife/girlfriend. Oh, who am I kidding? I don't think he'd notice me even if my hair was on fire.<Sigh>
I'm glad that the Packers won the Super Bowl, but only because my best friend is a die hard Packers fan. I thought the commercials this year were definitely better than last year's. My absolute favorite was Volkswagen's The Force, featuring the pint sized Darth Vader. I also liked Bridgestone Tires Karma and Doritos Pug Attack.
My sister and I are going to see these guys on June 16th in Chicago. *Swoon*
Congrats to 6 ft. 8 Blues goalie Ben "Big Ben" Bishop on his very first NHL shutout Friday night against Edmonton! Way to go, kid.

2011 Academy Awards Predictions

Best Picture: The King's Speech. The only other nominated film that has a chance to win? The Social Network. It won the Golden Globe in this category, but my gut instinct is telling me that The King's Speech will win the Oscar.
Actor in a Leading Role: Colin Firth. He was brilliant as King George VI. The other nominees in this category don't stand a chance.
Actress in a Leading Role: Natalie Portman. Annette Bening is the most capable of pulling off an upset, so I didn't count her out on a few of my contest ballots.
Actor in a Supporting Role: I split my votes between Christian Bale and Geoffrey Rush. Bale has won the Golden Globe and the SAG award in this category, but Rush's performance as King George VI's speech therapist is too good to overlook.
Actress in a Supporting Role: Hailee Steinfeld. Melissa Leo and Amy Adams were great in The Fighter, but I can't help but wonder if they will split the Academy vote. To cover my bases, I spread my vote between Steinfeld and Leo.
Best Director: Will be either David Fincher for The Social Network or Tom Hooper for The King's Speech.
Best Original Screenplay: The King's Speech or Inception.

A Question For Contact Lens Wearers

Okay, this is going to sound weird, but here goes.

Have you ever had a dream where you're trying to put your contact lenses in your eyes, but no matter how hard you try, you can't get them in because the lenses are too big (I'm talking the size of saucers) and/or misshapen?

I don't know why, but I dream about this happening at least twice a month. Please tell me I'm not alone.

On Friday, St.Louis Blues captain Eric Brewer was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning for D Brock Beukeboom and a third round 2011 draft pick. I'm not unhappy with the trade, but I'm not exactly dancing for joy like some Blues fans were the second they heard the news. I will never understand why some of these aforementioned fans disliked Brewer to the point where they would boo him every time his name got mentioned. Did I get frustrated with his play at times? Of course I did, but I've been frustrated with EVERYONE on the team at some point or another. Have I ever booed him, or any of the other players, for making mistakes? Of course not. (However, cursing is an entirely different story) Brewer's problem in a nutshell? He could never fill the skates of the Almighty Chris Pronger. Fans were pissed off at former team owners Bill and Nancy Laurie for jettisoning Pronger and his exorbitant salary to Edmonton in exchange for Brewer and Jeff Woywitka, which then propelled the disgruntled to project their anger on the two guys who had no control over the situation. Neither player deserved such treatment. Brewer is such a nice guy off the ice, so I wish him and his family the best of luck in Tampa.

Blues GM Doug Armstrong wasn't quite finished after the Brewer trade. Jaws dropped to the floor in disbelief when this news hit the wires Saturday morning.

The Blues acquired Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Erik Johnson and Jay McClement. Don't get me wrong- I'm greatly excited to have Stewart and Shattenkirk in the Blue Note (especially Stewart, who scored two goals last night in the 9-3 rout of the Ducks!), but not at the expense of 2006 first round pick EJ Why couldn't Crombeen, Winchester, or Janssen be shipped out instead? It's too bad Armstrong couldn't snag Matt Duchene from the Avalanche in exchange for one of those three. Oh well.
